Program Overview

Job Finders Club has been helping the people of Niagara get back to work for over 15 years. We provide the resources, guidance and level of support you need to do the best job search possible. Many people find that it's lonely and difficult to put in a solid day of job search at home and that it costs money to do it well. Job Finders Club makes it possible for you to put your best foot forward and will cover most of the costs.

Approach:

The JFC program is offered as a full-time, three-week session. Participants are actively looking for work from our centre, with many completing the session early to start a new job.

Our belief is that people, mostly through no fault of their own, find themselves between jobs and simply lack the right information and resources to enable them to return to the labour market on their own. Most have been busy working and are not up to date on current labour market practices. We use the directive approach, which means that our participants, with some guidance and quality coaching, quickly become directly engaged in a full-time job search by developing and using proven job search techniques. These techniques include contacting and meeting employers, attending interviews, negotiating the terms of employment and accepting a job.

What employers need to know about JFC:

Job Finders Club staff facilitates the development of skills and behaviours that employers expect. Often, very qualified people who participate in the program lack the proper job search skills to promote themselves effectively. Their résumé or cover letters may lack the polish necessary to be noticed by employers. Through the interview skills training at Job Finders Club these people also become more skilled in providing the essential information that employers need to make sound hiring decisions.

Many employers have also taken advantage of our job postings bulletin board and referral service. Job Finders Club makes the connection between employers and participants. Because our program promotes a self-directed approach to job search the responsibility to communicate with the employer stays with the job seeker once they've been informed of the available position.

Job Finders Club has also collaborated with outplacement services and adjustment committees to coordinate a smooth transition for displaced workers in seeking and obtaining new employment.
